What to Expect During the An Teallach Traverse

Scrambling & Technical Challenges

An Teallach features long sections of Grade 2-3 scrambling, with the most challenging section being the Corrag Buidhe Pinnacles. These require confident, careful movement over exposed and narrow terrain, with breathtaking drops to either side. Expect a thrilling combination of balance and strength as you navigate the ridge’s complex rock formations.

Ropework & Safety Techniques

In some areas, you’ll rope up for added security. Our guides will teach you essential ropework techniques, ensuring safe and efficient progress across the most exposed and technical sections of the ridge. We’ll be right there to support you through each challenge, no matter your experience level.

Equipment & Preparation

You’ll need the right technical kit for this traverse, including helmet, harness, and ropes (all provided). Your personal kit should include waterproofs, warm layers, and sturdy boots with ankle support. Your An Teallach Ridge Traverse Itinerary

Meet at Corrie Hallie

We start early to maximise our time on the ridge and ensure a smooth, enjoyable traverse. Meeting at 7am at Corrie Hallie gives us plenty of time to tackle the ridge safely. After a quick briefing and check of gear, we’ll begin our approach to the base of An Teallach.

The Ascent to the Ridge

The walk-in from Corrie Hallie takes around 3/4 hours, with the path steadily climbing through rugged terrain. As the ridge comes into view, you’ll feel the excitement build. From here, the real challenge begins, with the steep ascent onto the first summit, Sail Laith

On the ridge

The traverse of An Teallach’s pinnacles typically takes 3 hours, depending on conditions. Key highlights include the famous Corrag Buidhe Pinnacles and the exposed Ridgeline Between Sail Laith and the Munro Sgurr Fiona. The rock here offers engaging and exposed scrambling, where our guides will support you, ensuring safety and confidence throughout. The ridge delivers some of the finest scrambling and mountain views in Scotland, making every step worth the effort.

Summit and Descent

After completing the ridge and summiting Bidean a' Ghlas Thuill, we’ll finish with the long descent into Dundonnell. The day is physically demanding but incredibly rewarding, with sweeping views over the Fisherfield wilderness and surrounding lochs. Expect the entire day to last around 8-10 hours from start to finish.
